A Guide to making the Modern Man Cave

It’s in our Aussie DNA to hang out in the great outdoors through summer, with firing up the barbie at the top of fun things to do. But what’s a man to do with his mates when the weather is drab and dreary? Hang out in his man cave of course and be sure to get that BBQ suitably undercover for year round grilling!

Here at Firebrand BBQ, we’re all about a dedicated space where you can pop a cold one and fire up the Barbie after a long day or week at work. To make sure your man cave is the ultimate hangout spot, check out these simple projects you can do yourself – while that steak is sizzling!

As put together by Bupa Home Insurance in their latest article ‘A Guide to Making the Modern Man Cave’. We are proud to be chosen amongst Australia’s premier man-brands to feature, so check out some of their ideas….

Ultimate BBQ_for Bupa mancave blogInstall a feature wall: Switch it up from plain, painted walls. Expose a brick wall or install a wooden one. Use old pallet slats to create a wall. Paint them different colours or use different types of wood for a more dynamic look that will be the focal point of your basement, spare room or whatever other allocated space you have. Scope out yard sales to pick up materials without spending a load of money. Building a wall makes you feel like a man, and you’ll remember that every time you step inside.

Make some new light fixtures: Finally, something to do with all those empty bottles. Soak beer or wine bottles in warm water to remove the labels, then turn them into sconces, table lamps, or clustered chandeliers. The Internet is filled with videos on how to complete this easy project at home. It’ll give your man cave a bit of a rustic and rugged feel. Just make sure that the bottles are clean before you start.
Create something unique: An old tyre can make a great table or ottoman if you attach a board to cover the centre hole. Make sure to sand and varnish the top if you use wood so that you don’t run the risk of splinters. Many other items can be repurposed into furniture as well. Look online for inspiration and be creative. Try to find unique uses for things that are a bit unexpected.

These DIY projects should keep you occupied and happy in your man cave throughout the winter, while the BBQn keeps you warm and belly full!

Be sure to keep a few spare Picnic Packs of our Firebrand Charcoal in your man cave, cause no one wants to run out of fuel!
